POKEMON,
PRESENTED BY PROFESSOR BIRCH
PRESENTED BY PROFESSOR BIRCH
"Hiya! I'm here to talk to you about how to evolve and catch Pokemon, so do try to listen up, okay? "As I'm sure you well know, every Pokemon can be caught in a Pokeball when it gets weaker. However, did you know that since the shadows came over the region, you've been able to capture a Pokemon after it's fainted as well? In fact, it's easier to capture a Pokemon then since it's only in defeat that the most levels are awarded and shards of light are dropped. Even after a region has been returned to light, this tendency remains, so be sure to take advantage of it. "Of course, when a Pokemon has been fainted and then captured, it's impossible to level or battle without reviving it first. Some Trainers prefer to skip Pokemon that they don't want to fight, and that's okay too! Just be sure that you don't throw any Pokeballs at a Trainer's Pokemon, that way you won't lose a Pokeball on a Pokemon that you can't capture. "Oh yeah, and I bet you're wondering what the difference is trying to catch Pokemon in regions that are lightened versus when they're still in the shadows. Well, for starters, the Pokemon in shadowed areas are less aggressive, so you can persuade them to join you if you talk to them, and all Pokemon drop shards of light when defeated; in addition, there's higher chances to find "rare" Pokemon in darkened areas! When areas are lightened, of course, the Pokemon can't be persuaded to join your team, and only shiny Pokemon drop shards of light. Certain Pokemon species return to the region once again, shiny Pokemon appear far more often, and it's even rumored that the swarms of rare Pokemon only happen in areas free of shadow! "As far as evolution goes, Pokemon that evolve at a certain level will still evolve at that level. Move and location related evolutions are the same as well, but friendship and trade evolutions work differently now. To evolve a Pokemon through friendship, you have to feed it a Bell cookie after three battles, while trade evolutions are accomplished by feeding it a Link licorice, which will evolve the Pokemon regardless of whatever other requirements are needed to evolve through trade. Stat-based evolutions happen at the same level according to the Pokemon's personality. "You can carry a maximum of six Pokemon with you at all times; the other Pokemon are kept in the personal computer system, which sends them over here to me, where it's safe. I also run a breeding center, so if you ever need to have a Pokemon produce a baby, just let me know and I can get some eggs for you. "And while we're on the subject of eggs, you need to have it present in your party to hatch it. Six times in the same place should be enough to hatch it, though I've heard a rumor that a Pokemon with the abilities of Flame Body or Magma Armor can make it hatch in three. All eggs will hatch at level five rather than level one. "Breeding also brings around some really odd things. After a Pokemon has produced an egg, both Pokemon are taken out of commission for ten days before they can be bred again. If it was a male or genderless breeding with a Ditto, Professor Elm tells me that it takes fifteen days before you can breed again. And then of course, the shiny chance changes according to the parents. "You see, if you're breeding two non-shiny Pokemon, you have no chance of getting a shiny child. If one parent is shiny, there's a one in four chance the baby will be shiny. When both parents are shiny, however, the chance of a baby being shiny increases from one to three, so it really pays to have shiny parents! "Everyone is given a single starter Pokemon at level ten when they first begin their journey. In addition, there are shops that sell Pokemon, and even occasionally Pokemon that are given away by kind strangers to help you in your quest. Be sure to always keep an eye out for new friends to add to your party, you never know what might be lurking around every corner!" | |
