PRESENTED BY PROFESSOR ELM
"Ah, so Professor Oak sent you here! I've been doing a lot of research into what happened when the world began to fall into shadow, and while a lot of this is conjecture, the evidence certainly seems to support it. "No doubt you remember the great legendary Pokemon Arceus. Arceus first created the world intending for Pokemon and humans to live in harmony. But as the years went by, Arceus began to grow tired of watching the world. So the great legendary searched until it found a Musharna, and then it asked the Musharna to place it into a deep sleep. The psychic-type agreed, and so Arceus slipped into a peaceful slumber. "This went on for thousands of years, but slowly Darkrai got jealous. It was Darkrai's job to provide dreams to the world. So what Darkrai did was chase off the Musharna keeping Arceus asleep, and then the dark legendary tried to do the same. But as you remember, Darkrai causes nightmares from which it is impossible to awaken. This is the state to which Arceus fell to, an endless nightmare that goes on and on and on. Darkrai, realizing what it had done, then fled out of shame, hiding from man, but the damage was already done. The world was in chaos. "You see, what happens is that every time Arceus slips deeper into the nightmare, the original peaceful dream that the Musharna made cracks even further. Trying to protect Arceus, Giratina has taken the god-like legendary to its distortion world, but in doing so, Giratina has effected everyone. The Musharna's dream began to shatter, and as it fragmented, parts of the world began to fall into shadow. "It started in Kalos first. That's part of why Kalos Pokemon are so hard to find, because no one knew what some of damage the shadowed areas could do. But as soon as they realized that they could turn into Pokemon and that native species of the areas had been driven off to leave only the strongest, the people began to run. Sycamore was the first to come to us, and the man was in such a flurry that it didn't take much to convince the rest of us to flee. "But where were we to go? We had only had a year to recover from what happened with Team Plasma before the shadows first touched the realm, but they moved quickly. Sinnoh fell in another year, and we were running out of time. That was why we first started looking at relocating to the Romantic Isles. It was isolated, independent of any one region, and previous expeditions had revealed that the Pokemon had odd tendencies, more of the rare colors that we'd seen on the mainland. Hoenn fell two years after the shadows first touched Kalos, and we took it as a sign to move. From there, the progression was fast. A year's time lost Orre, the Whirl Islands, and the Orange Islands; another resulted in the fall of both Johto and Kanto. But what was worse, the shadows began to touch the Romantic Isles too. "Over the course of the following months, soon the twenty isles began to fall one by one, in spite of our best efforts and the tireless work of those on the islands, both the newcomers and the refugees fleeing the shadowed regions. It has been five years since the shadows first appeared on the land, and we had been working to try to save the isles as they fell. The isle of Hephaestus was the latest to fall, only succumbing a month ago, but at the same time, we received our first glimmer of hope. All of us professors had been working tirelessly to try to determine how to save Arceus while here at the Dream Institute, a research station pre-dating the shadows but commandeered as a headquarters for us while we sought out answers. And then, against all the odds, Sycamore and Juniper found the answer. "Every Pokemon in the shadowed areas carry with them shards of the original dream that Musharna gave to Arceus. These shards are what's known as light shards, and they seem to be what gives shiny Pokemon their odd coloring. What they discovered, however, was that we could open a small hole to the distortion world inside of the Dream Institute, and that if we gave some of the shards back to Arceus, we could push back the nightmares. "It may not be much, and a lot of it relies on what Rowan calls flights of fancy, but it makes sense with what we have. So please... suspend your disbelief and help us put the world back the way it once was." | |
